About Us
The group was formed to meet other like minded people. I started posting on real estate web sites to let others know that I will be having monthly meetings if interested, that was around Feb. 2002, I did not charge any dues at that time, I just wanted to show others that there were more people that had the same interest and was happy to invest my time and energy into this. But then it started growing.
By charging a small dues I can offer more advantages, discounts and also speakers that would like to attend our club and to move the club upward which as of Aug. 2003. NICREI became NIREA and dues for membership was formed. Including having refreshments at all meetings, door prize, newsletter and more.

History of Northern Illinois REA (formerly NICREI)
Our group was started in Feb.2002 to be able to network and meet others that had the same interest as I in real estate investing. There was no one that I knew to talk with about real estate in the McHenry, Lake county in IL. area. I was educating myself in the real estate investment world by going to one of the many web sites related to this topic since 1997 when I got my first computer and got online.. I then “picked-out” those people from the area that were posting messages to help educate themselves, and e-mailed them to see if they wanted to get together and brainstorm about their real estate investing experiences. I set up that 1st meeting at a Local restaurant, to my surprise we had a total of 12 show up, with the help of word of mouth by 2 people by the name of (Pat Molidor) and (Ken Lill) still Members of NIREA, who I was emailing about such.
The meeting was an informal long table discussion about what each of them had done in real estate investing.
Since that showed there was interest I kept looking for a more suitable place to meet.
I finnally contacted the local VFW and was able to work out something with them to use a small area of their hall to meet. Just by word of mouth we had in attendence on average 10 -20 people.
Seeing that, we set a standing date of the First wednesday of every month.I then kept setting up meetings and tried to find more people interested in the club. We continued to just have general conversations about real estate investing.
I then started posted the group’s meetings time/date/location/web site on various Creative Real Estate Investing web sites. By setting up a web site, that I worked on constantly to add information that would be of interest, really got things going. Once that was done for our group, the calls started coming in and we moved to the Hampton Inn and formed (NIREA) and now with a cost for the room etc. since we started growing, As of Aug. 2003 I needed to have a door charge and Member sign up, to help quarantee I would be able to cover all the cost in running a group.
To make it more relaxed and give attendees some thing more for their door charge and or dues, I decided to have available coffee, snack and a door prize. It makes it so much more relaxing!
Our group continued to grow by various means, with word-of-mouth probably being the best source of new people showing up at the monthly meetings. I started adding Local Business experts and National speakers and now we are about 60-80 people strong attend every month. As of 8/1/05
Our meetings have become a little more organized, with having more National Speakers but still relaxed, and we now have about 900 people in our database as of 8/2005 There have also been over 100 people at a few meetings. I am stll working hard toward a goal of bringing NIREA up to the next level of what it can offer, and what it can be!
With a lot of persisstance,We now have Natioanl speakers at our group such as;
Michael Carbonare, Dustin Ryan,Donna Bauer, Claude Diamond, Bill Gatten and many more.
As of June 2003 (NIREI) was changed to Northern Illinois REA.(NIREA)
As of April 27, 2005 NIREA is now a Group Member of National REIA.com which offers many discounts to Members from local business's, conferences, and more. It will be a great benefit to members.
